How do credit card services work online?

There are basically two ways you can process credit card sales online.  One is to have a secured email sent from an electronic form on your site to you and then you process the sale amount using a credit card processing system set up at your office.  The other is to process the credit card sale in "real-time" right online at the point of sale.  Most sites that take credit card payment over the internet offer their customers a comfort level by acquiring a secured site with an SSL certificate (see below).

What if I already have a credit card service?

If you have a credit card merchant account already you may want to check with them to see if they will allow you to accept Internet generated charges.  You can have an email form send an email from within your secure site and then process charges as you normally charge them in your everyday business. If they do not accept Internet generated sales or no not provide "real-time" credit card sales from within your web site, then you will need to switch to a merchant account service that will allow these functions.

What is "real-time" service?

When charges are processed at the point of sale (right on your web site) we call them “real time.”  They are approved and deposited into your bank account directly from within your site.  If the charge does not go through (card is declined) then the sale does not progress to the next leve (i.e.- download of file, confirmation notice, membership entry, etc.).  Should you desire this type of service then we will assist you to set up an account with Authorize.net (see below).

Our custom programmers can include some ASP (Active Server Pages) code in your online order forms which will allow you to use this "real-time" system seamlessly in the background of your site.  Unlike other services which require your customer to leave the site and fill out the order form from within their site and then return.  In other words, the process takes place without your customer ever leaving your page.  If you choose a Hosting Plan where we "design and do everything" we will include the ASP code in the site for free.  If you choose the "design and do everything yourself" option then we can set up this ASP code for a small programming fee.

What is a secure site or SSL certificate?

All credit card transactions using Authorize.net will require a secure site.  But even if you do not require "real-time" processing, most sites that take credit card payment over the internet offer their customers a comfort level by acquiring a secured site with an SSL certificate.  This certificate simply tells all visitors to your site that you are using the most sophisticated encryption methods to secure any transactions (email, orders, membership information, etc.) that occur at your site.  We recommend a Thawte certificate for many good reasons.

How do I get a secure site or SSL certificate?

You can simply fill out the Thawte Order Form on our site and we will get the process rolling for you immediately.  The standard certificate fee is $125 and there is a one time $25 set up fee.  We waive the set up fee if you have chosen any Professional or Commerce Hosting Plan where we "design and do everything."

Why use Authorize.net?

Authorize.net is one of the few credit card services using an ASP (Active Server Pages) code based system.  This allows us to customize your forms, emails and functions within your web site to better interact with the Authorize.net process.  This includes our popular, hidden "real-time" processing.

How do I apply for an Authorize.net account?

Once you have signed up for your TELEsites.net web site we will forward to you the location of the electronic application form.  You will need also to apply for an SSL / secure certificate as it is required by them.  If you choose a Hosting Plan where we "design and do everything" we will include the set up fee and custom ASP code to make the entire process hidden from your customers, for free.  Since we only offer our application to those who are hosting their web presence on our Windows NT/2000 Servers, we do not list the link to the application here.
