What
is virtual Web hosting?
We
specialize in virtual Web hosting, which means that you can
find a home for your Web Site on our high performance Windows
NT Web Servers and establish your presence on the Internet
with your own unique domain name. This is a very intelligent
and cost effective alternative to hosting your own web site
internally. Current estimates for setting up and running
your own internal Internet Server average about $60,000 US
annually. Our shared hosting environment gives you the
benefits of high performance servers, high bandwidth
connectivity that can seamlessly grow with your needs,
pre-installed software, guaranteed reliability and
around-the-clock support, all at a small fraction of the cost
of doing it yourself.

Do
you offer dial-up internet access?
No.
We do NOT provide Local Internet access to anyone over our
servers. All our Servers are reserved for web site
hosting only. Other hosting companies that offer IP
services and hosting are slowed down by the IP traffic to
their equipment.

Ask
a question that is not here.
Do
you offer web page design services?
Yes.
Our concept is to provide one-call service for our clients.
No need to learn a whole new career just to have a presence on
the Internet. No need to learn HTML. Java, FTP, or any
programming language. Of course, if you want to
edit your own full site you can have password access to it at
anytime. Many customers allow us to set them up and then
they do their own day to day administration. You simply
email the text & photos to us, we do all the rest.
Additional editing and custom programming may be
acquired by the hour at our low programming & design
rates.

How
do I transfer files to my Web site ?
We
take care of all of this for you, however if you are the
do-it-yourself type: Files can be transferred to the Web
server via Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 or a File Transport
Protocol (FTP) program. Many of these FTP programs are
freely available online. Microsoft® FrontPage®
2000 users can 'publish' their sites to our server and should not
use FTP.

You
have unlimited access via FTP or Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000
24-hours a day - 7 days a week. As such, you can create
and maintain your Web pages on your own computer and upload
files to your Web site at your leisure. Or, like most of
our clients, you can send us everything in email and we will
post it to your site.

you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World
Wide Web has become a most efficient and cost-effective means
of making information available to the users of the Internet
community. In addition, our Professional and Commerce plans
provide the features you would need to set up your own online

How
long does it take to set up a new account ?
Most
accounts are set up and active on our powerful Windows NT
servers within 2 to 4 hours. Once an account is set up,
an activation notice will be sent to you via e-mail. We
can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately
thereafter. Domain account users who want to publish
their own sites will be given a temporary URL (numbered domain
address) to access their site via the Web prior to the
completion of either domain registration or transfer.
This process (called propagation) is handled by thousands of
Internet servers all over the world that are not under
XPhosting.Net control. Once these "index"
servers are rebooted with your new address information on them
the propagation process is complete. Since these
servers are rebooted at different times, all over the world,
the site will become available to browsers in different places
at different times.
Our
registration services typically
completes the registration within 24 hours, and propagation
typically takes 12 to 24 hours.

Communication Related Questions
How do I send
files via email to XPhosting.Net
for my Web site
?
Send email
to
your_domain_name@XPhosting.Net.
In this way we know which web site it
is referencing (i.e.-
americanbarter@XPhosting.Net, etc.).
You may want to change our email address
listing in your address book so this will always be
used when communicating to us about your
web site. When sending
urgent email (web site offline, order form not working, etc.)
do not use the above format but instead see (next section
below) Tech Support email.
How do I contact tech
support at XPhosting.Net?
Always send
urgent matters or tech support related emails to
support@XPhosting.Net or use the online form at
www.XPhosting.Net/support. This sends a copy of the
urgent email to both the main office and the tech support
staff at the server/backbone level for immediate attention.
How do I send text
or text
files via email to XPhosting.Net ?
When you are
typing the
initial text, there is no need to spend a lot of time changing
the fonts or design of the page as we must remove these in
order to put the text into the web site.
The only way to send us a "finished
look" is to do the page in FrontPage
or an HTML editor and then send us
the file via email in the standard .htm
format. Even the MS Word program
(part of the same office suite as
FrontPage) adds hundreds of hidden characters to the
text that plays havoc with FrontPage and
web browsers.
How do I send
photos or photo
files via email to XPhosting.Net ?
You need not send us disks
or CDROM with your photos on them unless you have a lot of
photo files. You simply look at the photos on the disk
with you computer using your computer's
default image editor or any
Photoshop type program. Double
click on the name of one of the photo
files to open it. Once it is open you may want to crop
the photo to make it look the way you want it. Then save the
photo (using SAVE AS) into a .jpg
format using
a standard 640 pixels width
(don't worry about the height). This is the best size
to fit into everyone’s browser windows from within your web
site. If you have a very detailed photo you may want to save
it to a larger
size but keep in mind that detailed photos take longer to
download (view) and some visitors to your web site may have to scroll
around to see the whole image. Save the file using a real
name that describes the shot (i.e.-
front_of_store.jpg,
etc.).
Name the
photo file so it can be easily identified. Do NOT use
capital letters when naming your files.
Lastly send
us an email using the address format we mentioned above. Once
the email instruction text is typed
in, look for a section on the menu of your email program to
add an attachment or file to the email. Usually INSERT | FILE
on the menu. Once you select this, it will open a small
directory window in which you can browse the files on your
computer until you find the specific named file and add it to
the email. Do not use INSERT | PHOTO as this will place the
picture into the email and many email servers will not allow
it to go through in that format. Add as many files to the
email as you wish to send but do not exceed a 1MB size for
each email as many email servers will not allow larger files
to be delivered. In this case simply send several emails with
several photos in each one.
Once you
have had some practice you can take this to the next step.
There are several free programs available that can compress
many files into one. The most popular one is called WinZip.
They call this process ZIP and UNZIP for compress and
uncompress. You can download this program from our web site at
www.telecomputes.com/files.htm simply click on the WINZIP
title and follow the instructions. Once installed; you can
highlight many files at once and save them into one .zip
file. Then by sending us this ZIP file we can UNZIP it on
this end and save a lot of space. This allows you to send
many photos and files all at one time within one email.

Yes,
you will be able to access the domain name with or without the
'www.' in front. For example, you can access the domain
name "mydomain.com" by going to
"www.mydomain.com" as well as
"mydomain.com."

Do
you handle domain registration?
Yes.
We will handle the entire registration
process for you once you have completed our order form.
Once your order form is process and your new account is
activated we will perform a new domain name registration or a
transfer of your existing domain name to our servers.
You do NOT need to submit a registration or modification
template to the InterNIC, as we will do this for you.
When
an account is activated with a new domain name, we will
automatically complete the registration with IDR. The
information sent to IDR is pulled directly from the order
form. Our registration
services typically completes the registration within 24
hours, and propagation typically takes 12 to 24 hours.

a question that is not here.
What
is a NIC handle?
Every
entity registered with InterNIC has a NIC handle. You can use
the same NIC handle as the contact for several domains. This
way, if you make a change to the NIC handle information (i.e.,
a new e-mail address), all domains using that NIC handle will
be updated as well. Now that there are more then one
registering body for the InterNIC there are more then one set
of "handle" databases.

Whom
shall I contact regarding InterNIC billing?
You
will not need to contact anyone since we will be your register
agent. As Global Partners with IDR we handle all your
domain name registration details for you. If you have
any questions you may e-mail us at
InterNIC@XPhosting.Net.

Ask
a question that is not here.
Can
I transfer an existing domain name?
Yes.
When you place an order via our online order form, be sure to
specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new
domain by simply checking the transfer box. You should
keep the hosting service at your present site while waiting
for your domain name to transfer. We will provide you
with a temporary IP address so you can mirror your site on our
server or we can set it up for you. All e-mail and Web
pages will still be accessed from your current site.
When InterNIC receives the template, they will generate an
acknowledgment request (Ack/Nak) and send it to the current
administrative contact of the domain. Once the
administrative contact acknowledges the transfer, InterNIC
will update their records.

Ask
a question that is not here.
I
have purchased my domain name from another company. How
can I update the information at InterNIC?
We
can help you through this process, but here is basically what
happens.
In
order to transfer a domain name from one organization to
another, InterNIC requires that the "original owner"
file a "delete/new" template. This template consists
of two domain registration templates, combined into one
e-mail. The first template deletes the registration of the
original domain name, and the second re-registers the domain
name using the new owner’s information. This request must be
initiated by the original owner, as the owner is the only one
authorized to make such a modification.
Back
to the top. See hosting
plans. Go
to order form.
Ask
a question that is not here.
How
long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once
the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been
registered (or transferred), it usually takes about 24 hours
before it is visible to all users of the Internet. All
Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to
reflect new site locations once a day. This process
(called propagation) is handled by thousands of Internet
servers all over the world that are not under XPhosting.Net
control. Once these "index" servers are
rebooted with your address information on them the propagation
process is complete. Since these servers are
rebooted at different times, all over the world, the site will
become available to browsers in different places at all
different times.
XPhosting.Net
typically completes the registration within 2 to 4 hours and
propagation typically takes about 24 hours after that.

a question that is not here.
What
is the InterNIC fee for domain registration ?
The
Standard InterNIC charge from most registrars is $70 to
register a new domain name. This fee covers the
first two years, as they currently bill at a rate of $35 per
year. We register the name for you (as Global Partners with
IDR) for only $50 for the same first two years.
You can now register your name for up to ten years in advance.
Registration is completed by
XPhosting.Net and billed directly to your credit card upon
filling out our online order form.

Server
Extensions
Microsoft®
FrontPage® 2000 extensions are CGI programs that provide the
server side implementation of Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000.
Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 communicates with the extensions
via HTTP using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC). When the server
sees the "POST" request addressed to the Microsoft®
FrontPage® 2000 server extensions it simply directs the
request to the appropriate CGI program. The extensions
implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, ToDo
lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and
administrator privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time
WebBot components).
Without the Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 server extensions you
will not be able to take advantage of the WebBots
that are available through Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000. Also,
without the extensions you cannot author and administer your
web using the tools provided as part of the Microsoft®
FrontPage® 2000 Editor/Explorer package.

a question that is not here.
Limitations
There
are some issues that potential Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000
users should consider:
- Web
size -- This seems to be most critical when a
"searchable event" is present in the web
(Search, Discussion Forum and Table of Contents). The
lengthy process of updating the indices for these
functions can lead to the connection timing-out (HTTP 500
Error or 'Server has timed-out').
- Disk
Usage -- You may create and publish as many child
webs as your disk storage space allows. However, for each
child web you publish, Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000
duplicates certain information into indices and hidden
files. This adds 'overhead,' increasing the storage space
required for your files. Microsoft's documentation notes,
"Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 optional full-text
search indexes can take up to the same amount of disk
space as your textual content."
- PRECAUTION
There is one main precaution which need be taken to
protect the Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 extensions on
your site:
Do NOT use regular FTP (such as WS_FTP) to upload files to
the server when Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 extensions
are installed. This may corrupt the extensions, disabling
the interactive features available with Microsoft®
FrontPage® 2000. You may use the FTP upload
function from within FrontPage.

Bots
WebBots
are the mechanism for invoking many of the interactive
features built into Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000. These
features are added to your web through the Microsoft®
FrontPage® 2000 Editor | Insert WebBot component
Some,
such as ''Include'' and ''Substitution'' allow elements of the
web to be entered once and included in any or all of the pages
by inserting the Bot component referencing that element (e.g.,
a logo or navigation bar). Changes made to the 'master'
element are made automatically to any page containing the
referencing Bot.
Other
Bots, such as Search, Table of Contents and Timestamp, control
dynamic browse-time features. These Bots work behind the
scenes to keep the web up-to-date for visitors.
For
more information on using the Bots, see the documentation
provided with Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 or contact
